Overview:

Canada's worst ice storm in 1998

Dave Gerwing (President and CEO of Menova Energy) and his family tried to weather out the infamous ice storm of 1998 in a small town just south of Ottawa. Their open-hearth wood fireplace kept them warm but with no power, their electric furnace and all of their appliances were useless. Very quickly, he realized that he could not stay in the home with his wife and their 5 month old son. After 10 days of moving between hotels and friends' houses, Dave truly appreciated first hand how dependent we have become on electricity for heat and basic survival.

Ice storm damage

Over the intervening years, our consumption of - and dependence upon - electrical energy has increased significantly. At the same time, the costs have continued to rise (at a rate of approximately 10-15% per annum) and it is becoming increasingly evident that the delivery infrastructure is teetering on the brink of collapse (witness the rolling blackouts in California and the wide-spread blackout in eastern North American during the summer of 2003).

At Menova Energy, Dave and his team have focused their engineering talents to design and build modular and reliable renewable energy products which are specifically designed to deliver efficient outputs in harsh environments (both hot and cold). The Power-Spar® system is the product of those efforts. Power-Spar systems are available in configurations which are suitable for the Industrial, Commercial and Institutional market. Essentially, any building with a large flat roof is a potential installation site. Ground mounting configurations are available as well.

Power-Spar® technologies can be obtained directly from Menova Energy and from an ever expanding network of licensed vendors.

Please do not hesitate to contact us for more information about our products or to inquire about licensing or reselling our Power-Spar® products.

Ontario consumers facing higher gas bills
A rush of cold air could wash over Ontario this fall when residents get their first glimpse at natural gas bills that include higher prices which went into effect on Canada Day.
Consumers will face gas bills that are as much as 45% higher than what they're used to paying, depending on where they live, and that could convince many to sign energy contracts to cut their costs. full story>>>
